About the project
The Petersburg Listening Project is an initiative to record the voices and life experiences of people in Petersburg inspired by StoryCorps . According to the StoryCorps initiative, "the interviews help people to connect and to talk about the questions that matter to them". The Petersburg Story Project is supported by the Alaska State Library and the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

What do you want to know more about?
The Petersburg Listening Project encourages you to ask the people around you about their lives. There are many possibilities: your grandmother, a teacher, a neighbor, your parent. Interviews can be about anything, some examples include a shared experience you want to remember, something you want to know more about, a chance to record family history or an opportunity to hear about something you've always wanted to know more about. If you are not sure what to ask, check out the list of great questions from StoryCorps.

How it works
The interview is a 40-minute conversation between two people who know each other. Interviews take place at the Petersburg Public Library in our meeting room. You and your partner conduct your own interview. A trained facilitator will be present to help you throughout the interview process and to handle all technical aspects of the recording. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to take home and share, and is archived for generations to come at the library. For a complete description of what to expect click here.
